Camperfixx SoftStop Sliding Door Mid-Position Stop for Fiat Ducato – ASA-CF

The Camperfixx SoftStop holds your campervan's side sliding door in a useful halfway position, where you often need it in everyday use. It is particularly helpful when the vehicle is parked on a slight forward slope and the door would otherwise keep sliding shut unless fully opened and latched in its end position. Useful when getting in and out, cooking, ventilating or simply leaving the door partly open.

HOW THE SOFTSTOP WORKS

The difference from a factory-fitted door stop, where present, is most noticeable when closing the door. An original stop holds the door firmly at the halfway point. If the door is pushed shut from the fully open position without keeping the handle raised, it runs into that stop with a hard impact. This can easily happen in everyday campervan use. The Camperfixx SoftStop uses a detent that the mechanism can ride over instead of a rigid end stop. If you close the door without raising the handle, it passes over the detent teeth with an audible clicking sound rather than hitting a fixed stop.

For quieter operation, for example at night on a campsite, raise the handle as usual. This takes the load off the detent so the door moves more quietly. When you want the door to stay halfway open, the detent still holds it there. The three teeth are arranged one after another. If the door starts moving slowly on a slight slope, one of the detents can catch it. If the first does not engage fully, the door will usually lose some momentum and stop at the next or following detent.

The SoftStop deliberately engages more firmly at first. After several movements, the contact surfaces bed in slightly. The door then passes over the detent more easily and needs less momentum when closed without raising the handle. The load is also spread across several contact points. If the first tooth becomes more worn after extended use, further detents remain available to hold the door.

IMPORTANT MODEL YEAR LIMITATION

This product was developed for vehicles up to model year 2024. It is currently not recommended for the Ducato 9 or equivalent vehicles from model year 2025 onwards. A small change in the sliding door mechanism means that the ride-over function often does not work reliably on these vehicles.

EASY INSTALLATION WITHOUT DRILLING

The SoftStop arrives ready to fit, with the magnet already installed. First insert the larger locating lug on the left into the matching opening in the sliding door guide. The integrated magnet then draws the part into position. On the right, an additional retaining structure engages in the oval opening in the guide. To remove it, lift the right side slightly and carefully pull the SoftStop to the right. This releases the left locating lug so the part can be taken out.

The SoftStop is retained both mechanically and magnetically in the door guide. The forces generated as the door engages or passes over it are distributed through the locating and retaining points as well as the magnet. No drilling, adhesive or assembly of separate parts is needed. Insert it and it is ready to use.

VEHICLE TOLERANCES

There are small variations in some vehicles' sliding door mechanisms. The relevant part is the plastic component at the end of the door cable, which lifts the sliding door latch when the handle is operated. Its position and angle can vary slightly with the vehicle or Bowden cable adjustment. In most vehicles, the door passes over the SoftStop detent in a controlled manner when closed without raising the handle. This gives the intended ride-over action without a hard stop. In some vehicles, the plastic component may contact the SoftStop slightly earlier. The door can then catch on the gently rising front section rather than continuing cleanly to the teeth.

This does not affect the halfway holding function. The door can still be held at the intended middle position, but the ride-over action without operating the handle may be limited or may not work as intended. You can check this by raising the handle only slightly while closing the door. If this makes it pass over the SoftStop much more easily, the position of the plastic component at the cable end is very likely the cause. On some vehicles, a small adjustment to the Bowden cable can help the component sit slightly higher in its rest position.

Important: if the door catches on the gently rising front section, do not try to force it through with extra momentum. The vehicle mechanism is not reaching the intended ride-over position. Because these differences arise from the vehicle, ride-over operation without raising the handle cannot be guaranteed for every vehicle.

DURABLE ASA-CF MATERIAL

The SoftStop is made from ASA-CF: acrylate styrene acrylonitrile reinforced with carbon fibre. This material was chosen for a functional component exposed to friction, pressure and concentrated loads as the sliding door passes over the detents and presses against it. The carbon fibre reinforcement makes the material stiffer, more dimensionally stable and more resistant to load than basic plastics such as PLA or PETG. This makes ASA-CF better suited to this functional vehicle component in everyday campervan use. The surface has a matt, textured finish suited to a working vehicle part.
